Dr. Chris Stelton is a board-certified ophthalmologist who takes a personal interest in each of his patients and uses advanced technology to help ensure the best outcomes. He is the Chief of Ophthalmology at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Dr. Stelton’s patient-centered practice at SK Retina offers innovative procedures and therapies to diagnose and treat a range of eye conditions, including macular degeneration, macular holes, macular pucker, retinal tears and detachments, vein occlusions, posterior vitreous detachment, and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Stelton was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. His father served in the United States Air Force for thirty years, and as a result, Dr. Stelton grew up in many places including Texas, Florida, Louisiana, the Philippines, and Germany.
Dr. Stelton completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science from Texas AM University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He attended medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Dr. Stelton completed both an ophthalmology residency and a prestigious sub-specialty fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Emory Eye Center at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, one of the preeminent ophthalmology programs in the country. During his time in Atlanta, Dr. Stelton worked at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital providing retina care for Veterans experiencing eye conditions associated with aging, including complications from diabetes and high blood pressure, macular degeneration, and retinal detachments.
Dr. Stelton’s passion to study and treat diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration is evident in his work.
Dr. Stelton met his wife Christina in Atlanta, where she completed a fellowship in pathology. Christina was born and raised in Sarasota, where her father was an internal medicine physician for over 20 years. They are now proud parents to Caroline (4) and William (2). Aside from his active membership in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Stelton is an Eagle Scout, and in his free time, still enjoys camping and fishing. He and his wife are also parishioners at St. Thomas More.

Dr. Chikovsky earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He was recognized on the President’s Honor Roll and actively contributed as a student leader.
He went on to receive his medical degree from the University of South Florida’s Morsani College of Medicine, where he led the Law and Medicine Scholarly Concentration and was recognized for his academic excellence in multiple clinical clerkships, including honors in Ophthalmology and Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Chikovsky completed his Transitional Year at the UCF COM/GME Consortium – FL Residency, followed by a full residency in Ophthalmology at a respected academic center. He further specialized by completing a prestigious Uveitis Fellowship at Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution.
Research & Clinical Interests
Dr. Chikovsky has actively contributed to clinical research in the field of uveitis. His recent work at MERSI included a study evaluating the transition of patients from Remicade to Inflectra for ocular inflammation, focusing on metrics such as visual acuity, CME (cystoid macular edema), anterior chamber reaction, and disease control.
